We aim to be the ultimate Irish breakfast review site. Although primarily dedicated to breakfasts in Dublin, Ireland, we also include a lot of general information about breakfasts from Ireland and around the world.

RASHERS REVIEW: Home cooked breakfast, at home.

Mothers breakfast, Ireland.

It doesn't matter how many places I review, or how many different breakfasts I try. The best breakfast anyone can ever have is the one cooked by their own mother. It's a mixture of the warmth of welcome, the nostalgia for childhood and the relaxation of familiarity. You can't buy that.

RASHERS REVIEW: Frangos World Cuisine, Level 3, Dundrum Center, Dublin, Ireland

The breakfast here was served on a euro per item basis. It's hard to work out exactly how good value that is as it depends what you want to eat. I had 2 sausages, 2 eggs, 1 rasher, mushrooms, toast at €1.20 and a coffee that cost €1.90, so the total cost for me was a whopping €9.10. Of course drop the second egg and the mushrooms and it's only €7.10 (how much better?) but it's a pretty empty plate.

The chef who served it was cheerful, and the place was clean and airy. As it was only 10a.m. there were loads of seats but when we passed an hour or so later they were packed out.

The quality of the food was about a 6 out of 10. The mushrooms were slightly raw (although nice to find some served without a bowl of grease), the eggs were a bit like what you'd get in McDonalds - over processed, and the rasher was hard as hell. The final downer was the toast was toasted in one of those rotator toaster things where the toast goes golden and hard but is not hot enough to melt your butter on.

Overall impression: a handy sit down while shopping, but go for a coffee and eat somewhere else. (Personal opinion - decide for yourself).

RASHERS REVIEW: Days Hotel Galway, Dublin Road, Galway City, Ireland

Days Hotel, Galway, Ireland.

The full Irish buffet breakfast in Days Hotel was pretty good. There was orange juice, apple juice, cranberry and grapefruit too. You could run your own toast through a toasting runner machine which wasn't too good - the toast was only half done.

The hot section was good - rashers, scrambled and fried eggs, sausages, tomatoes, black and white pudding, hash browns, mushrooms and beans. Of course there was also tea and coffee too. One good thing which is rare in Irish hotels was you could help yourself, meaning you could have a savage big feed without some member of staff giving you a dirty look. Being a hungry man in the mornings I took full advantage as the photo shows and had both types of eggs, as well as a good helping of everything else.

Overall impression was good. Nothing amazing and not too good value at 12 euro 50 cent each, but the staff in general in Days Hotel are so very friendly and helpful it was still a memorable experience.

RASHERS REVIEW: N6 Juice & Sandwich bar, Kilmartins Texaco/Centra service station, Athlone, County Westmeath, Ireland

We were travelling from Dublin to Galway, and having set off before 6 we found our stomachs demanding food as we neared Athlone. At the N6 roundabout we pulled in to the Texaco garage and discovered a little snack restaurant with three friendly girls behind the counter. We had to ask ourselves if we were still asleep and dreaming when we saw a full Irish breakfast was just 6.50 including tea/coffee!

Now just to put it into perspective - if you take away the 2 euro you'd pay for the coffee alone in Dublin that makes the food itself cost around 4 euro 50 cent. Understandably then, we are awarding this location the "super value breakfast" award.

So, with a price tag like that you would not expect much I am sure. Nor did we.
But wait - we were shocked! When we got our coffees they were large and fresh ground, the toast was two slices of thick toast each, and the main plate had two slices black pudding, two slices white, half a tomato, two rashers, fried egg and a load of baked beans! If you check back through the reviews we have posted for the last three months you will find this is definitely one of the larger - while keeping the lowest cost.

RASHERS REVIEW: Hobarts, Ranelagh village, Dublin 6, Ireland

Hobarts, Ranelagh village, Dublin 6, Ireland.

I decided to go for some pancakes with maple syrup for a change. It was undescribably good, but I'll try!

There were two lovely folded fluffy crepes with lashings of maple syrup poured across them. Besides this feast there were two perfectly fried rashers, two patato cakes/hash browns, and two sausages crossed on top of the lot.

With it I had a bug cup of fresh coffee. The staff were friendly, the company good, and the day was off to a great start! Well worth the cost (roughly ten euro, maybe slightly less).

Marks and Spencer Bacon and Egg sandwich.

If you are not able to spare the time on the way to work to call in somewhere fro your rashers and eggs, you can always go for the mobile options - breakfast rool, or an upmarket Mark and Spencer egg and bacon sambo.

The taste is quite good, although you have to wonder why some of the ingrediants need to be flown half way around the world. Are there any which actually came from Ireland? Maybe it is all that jet-setting for the ingrediants that pushed up the price!

Encore Irish Breakfast for two

This place has been reviewed before, but since then the size, quality and value seems to have deminished. maybe just a once off, but that is this reviewers opinion.

For two of us to have breakfast here cost 22 euro. Yes, it cost 22 euro to have 2 breakfasts comsisting of -
1 sausage, 1 rasher, 1 fried egg, small (tiny even) fried potatoes in skins, 1 slice pudding, 1/2 a tomato, a couple of slices of toast and a mug of coffee.

The coffee was good, and the service was average. Food was alright, but it would have been nicer with larger helpings. I know I was still a bit peckish walking out. Never something you should feel after a full Irish breakfast. When we reviewed this venue back in March the helpings were much better, and the price was less if anything.

This place is a real gem. They have the most impressive breakfast menu I have seen so far around Dublin, and the service is top notch. I remember this place from years ago when it was a real greasy spoon. They have moved up-market but have not lost their intimate charm. The food was excellent too. I was going to go for the full traditional but in the end decided to get the midi-breakfast (at €8.50) because I had a hankering for some hash browns. I also ordered an orange juice which arrived promptly and was real freshly squeezed rather than out of a carton, the sort of detail that makes a breakfast a breakfast.

Our food arrived within 5 or 10 minutes of ordering and was very good. Toast came separately and was nice thick slices, still warm enough to melt butter on. My midi-breakfast was delicious. It had hash brown, two rashers, perfectly fried egg, a sausage and loads of baked beans. A large mug of coffee was included with the price too.

I can't emphasis how good this place is. If there was a down side to it, then it is that its popularity makes it occasionally hard to get a seat. Other than that it is the king of breakfasts.
