RASHERS REVIEW: Munchies, IFSC, Dublin 1, Ireland.
As anyone who works in the IFSC knows, this is almost a city within a city. The whole IFSC area of Dublin is filled with new shops, restaurants, venues bars and business. To feed the mass of over 10,000 financial workers here there are a huge number of different sandwich and hot lunch selling spots. One of the popular ones is Munchies just beside Georges Dock. This tiny little shop has generally got five girls flying the sambos out the door. The elaborate menu is chalked above the counter in New York Deli style and the orders are placed from a fast moving queue which curls around the venue from order to payment.
I went for a Munchi Brunchy which is a toasted chiabatta bread with fried egg, sausage and bacon (I got them to hold the optional relish). It was heavenly. Really. Hard to describe how good it was. Quite expensive at €5.65 but apart from that no complaints. And with the Christmas market in Georges Dock for the next few weeks you can treat yourself to one while picking up a few last stocking fillers!

RASHERS REVIEW: Brambles, Stillorgan Shopping Centre, County Dublin, Ireland.
A dedicated reader of this site will of course remember we did a review of Brambles Cafe in Stillorgan back in June 2006. Well, here at Rashers And Eggs we like to check back on our review locations every few months to monitor change and keep our readers updated. So it was that we found ourselves returning to Brambles.
This time around we still went for the 7 items but changed the mix to be - 2 eggs, 1 rasher, 2 sausages, 1 black pudding and 1 hash brown. As you can see from the photo the food looks good, but there is a hell of a lot of space for more. The coffee, juice and toast were included which I was quite happy with. However, the orange juice was still tiny, and still warm. The toast was very good, and there was plenty of it. The coffee....hmm....I don't want this to be a slating review, but I personally didn't like it. Maybe I am just too fussy.
Overall, my impression of this breakfast location was not great. Staff were friendly and the place was clean, but to me the measure of a breakfast is how full and content I feel afterwards. After this one I was slightly agitated because I felt I had not got the big breakfast I was hoping for. I think adding even one more food item to the breakfast could have pushed it into the winning enclosure. Lets hope that happens, because this cafe has the potential to be a top breakfast spot for the South Dublin suburbs.

RASHERS REVIEW: Spar, Lower Abbey Street, Dublin 1, Ireland.
There is a certain time of year. Let's call it pre-Christmas. During this time there is a lot more socialising than there is the rest of the year. So, in the rush to fit in the extra jack Daniels and coke, or whatever tipple you are partaking of, you find yourself not only slightly hung over but also realising your stomach is empty because you were too sloshed on the way home to fill up on a greasy fish and chips.
This is the time when the Irish breakfast roll comes into it's own. Yes, it descends from heaven on a big white cloud and wraps your head in cotton wool and sooths your stomach. OK Maybe that's a bit over the top, but lets face it - when you are hungry and hung over there is nothing quite like gorging yourself on a breakfast roll. You know you shouldn't, you know it's bad for you. You know the bacon i just going to have you even more de-hydrated all day. But you still have it. And God is it good!
This breakfast roll was from the Spar shop beside the LUAS stop on Lower Abbey Street (just off O'Connell Street). The staff were relatively friendly, although more friendly to each other while they chatted away paying just enough attention to me to find out what I was ordering. I asked for a breakfast roll with egg, rashers and sausages. My stomach just wasn't up for the pudding today. I had it in a bap which was soft and fresh. The bacon was thick cut and there were two strips. For my taste I'd have preferred if it was cooked a couple of minutes more but that was OK. There were three sausages, where most places only add two so that was a plus. The egg was those mini omelettes which so many places have. I have never been a fan. Why not just fry the damn eggs? Anyhow, the roll was €4.50 which is pretty good value, especially in the city centre.
